That’s absolutely fine! Everyone who attends meals contributes something special - from chopping an onion, to sharing a joke. Beyond the ambitions of resilient, membership-funded groups, our vision remains: "Diverse, resilient, and powerful communities, acting together for their common good".
Here’s some comparisons between how things used to work (then) and how things are going to work from now on (now):
Then: We would charge £7 per ticket (per meal), even for your first meal!
Now: We’re now introducing an option to donate (what you can afford to) monthly, and you can attend your first meal free before you decide whether/how much to donate.
Then/Now: As always, free tickets will be available for refugees and people seeking sanctuary at every meal.
Now: We’re also offering free tickets to anyone else who benefits from enjoying a delicious meal they’ve helped prepare from scratch with friendly humans, but can’t afford to donate.
Then: We used ‘members’, ‘leaders’ and ‘guests’ to distinguish between everyone who attended meals.
Now: Everyone is a member, whether they can afford to donate monthly or not! Our leaders are still called leaders, but they’re members too.
Then: People who weren’t time-rich enough to attend meals weren’t sure how else to support their local group
Now: We’re launching a donate-what-you-can supporter campaign for those who love the idea of Local Welcome meals, but aren’t able to attend!
Then: We didn’t have an option available to members to donate to their local group.
Now: Members can select the group they’d like their donations to go to. This is so we can share this information with our leaders to keep them updated on their group’s financial sustainability (all donations will be anonymous).
