(Some of) What we did this week…
- Supported our groups in Belfast, Birmingham, Cardiff, Derby, Leicester and Liverpool towards their meals this Sunday 🍛
- Planned our OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) for the next 3 months. We decide on three OKRs for each quarter of the year, and take into account all areas of Local Welcome as we do so (e.g. Operations, Service Improvement, Impact, Fundraising, Governance, HR etc.). We’re eager to put this work into motion, and will share updates with you via the weeknotes! 🎯
- YMCA Leicestershire held our second and final online trauma informed training session (sponsored by The National Lottery Heritage Fund). We’ve been really pleased to hear all your positive feedback on these sessions. To follow these sessions, we’ll be implementing more trauma-informed approaches into various areas of Local Welcome. We’ll share updates on this as they come! 💜
- Smiled at this wonderful article that an independent journalist wrote after attending a meal in Birmingham last month. We had no idea that this had happened until the journalist emailed the link over this week, and it was a lovely surprise! 🥰: https://centralbylines.co.uk/news/world/humaninterest/a-real-local-welcome-with-food-and-good-company/
🦺 Safety Refresher 🦺
We wanted to provide you with a re-cap on some of the measures we have in place to support you in keeping your meals safe.
Please take some time to review the safety refresher below, and send us a message via Whatsapp to confirm that you’ve read and understood it. As always, please also feel welcome to ask us any questions!
Safeguarding
On call hours
Our on call officer is available to support you by phone whenever a meal is happening. This is usually between 11am-3pm, on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month (though individual meal timings may sometimes differ).
As leaders, you must:
- Act if you have concerns about the safety or wellbeing of a child or adult, or if you observe concerning behaviour from others you may be working with.
- If something seems unusual, or you are worried about a person’s safety or well-being try to speak to the person, if appropriate, to seek further information. Advice on how to do this can be found here in our safeguarding policy.
- If you have concerns and are not sure what to do, you must ask for help immediately. Share your concerns or seek help and advice from the on call officer.
- Whatever your concern, whether you have been told something, whether you have seen or heard something that has made you uncomfortable– you must report it to the on call officer.
If anyone is in immediate danger:
- Call 999 immediately
- Call Local Welcome next (07934 377 575) and inform them that you’ve contacted the emergency services
If no one is in immediate danger:
- Call Local Welcome by 3pm (note: sometimes timings differ - if your meal has been organised to finish later than 3pm, the on call officer will be available until the agreed time)
Once you have shared your concern the on call officer will decide what the next course of action should be and inform the safeguarding officer.
